As a child, I remember hearing the old people talk about “Dog Days”

As a child, I remember hearing the old people talk about “Dog Days”

It stayed in my head because I was always curious and asked many questions.

I had seven brothers and many male cousins, and I could hear the elderly saying during the months of July and August everyone had to be careful not to get cut or have and open wound because it would be difficult or almost impossible to heal.

One day one of my brothers cut his foot open outside. It took forever to heal. I remember mom having us gather all of the spider web we could gather. My mother packed the wound with the web and we literally witnessed it shrink up in about 24 hours.

Today, I said to my husband we should be coming to the end of dog days. He grew up on a plantation, however, he had never heard that term.

Native Americans and blacks who lived amongst each other and married used the seasons, the Sun, the earth and herbs.

I studied up on this and when my children were growing up, I found myself using many of those same remedies in lieu of medication from doctors.

I had mentioned to my niece that she should protect an open wound my sister had gotten on her leg at the end of June and it was not healing as it should.

I mentioned to her, that July and August is a difficult time for any type of healing to occur because “it is dog days” She laughed at me and said Auntie, what is that?

I explained it to her and gave her a remedy.

She said to me, Auntie, I am hesitant to do that because they are using some sort of creme. My thoughts were, “if this had been going on since June and we are in August, your method is not working.”
later I ask her did she do it, her reply was not yet, I will do it after…
I have not asked her again because my philosophy is “God gives us choices.”

Kat why are you putting this out here?

Thanks for asking, God’s ways are not our ways, His thoughts are not our thoughts, greater is He that is within me than he that is in this world.

We are advised according to scripture as saints, to find the path of old and walk in it. Truth do not change, people do..

What if the blind man had told
Jesus, please do not put that junk on my eyes, what if the women who bled for 12 years did not touch the hem of Jesus’ garment?

We are so quick to knock things that are good for us. That is why without faith, it impossible to please God.
Back on topic, “Dog Days” are significant because of the extreme heat and humidity that takes place in these two months. I could see where wounds would be difficult to heal. The wounds would have a hard time healing because the body sweats and the wounds would stay wet.

Words of Wisdom!!!
Jesus said, “His sheep know His voice” If God is a Spirit and He uses bodies, why is it then so easy for us to accept” God said you are going to get a new car? But if a prophet tells you God said “get the vaccine” God said “soak your feet in” “God said, Pack your wound with spider web” we cannot be obedient?

God is steady guiding us if we only listen.

Dog days

Overview History
The ancient Romans called the hottest, most humid days of summer “diēs caniculārēs” or “dog days.” The name came about because they associated the hottest days of summer with the star Sirius. Sirius was known as the “Dog Star” because it was the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major (Large Dog).
