Can We Be Thankful for God’s Discipline?

When we are disciplined by Jesus, we are treated as sons and daughters. Scripture tells us that God chastises us because He loves us. If God loves us enough to discipline us, then we should love our children enough to do the same. The media and politicians have taken over the right of parents to chastise our children. God, our creator, is witness enough that society has lost control of its children.

At times, I feel like we are worse than third-world countries when it comes to our children. Children should be guided toward better behavior. Now that government has successfully taken the power away from the parent, the results are evidence that the system is broken. The Department of Children and Families is the devil incarnated. They are responsible for this generation of vipers that John speaks of in the New Testament.

Have you experienced difficult times of discipline from the Lord? I have, and I have seen Scripture bear true in my circumstances:

“For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it” (Hebrews 12:11).

Discipline is painful. But the fruits of discipline are sure. As one who has been there, let me assure you that we have to be thankful for the good fruits of God’s discipline.
